Today is a good day. The day when we got back our land,” Zelensky said in a statement
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday hailed the capture of settlements in the country’s east from Russia-backed separatist forces as “good news,” while also calling for a ceasefire.
“Today is a good day. The day when we got back our land,” Zelensky said in a statement released by his office.
“I know that the situation on the contact line is very difficult, that there is shelling and fighting every day,” he added. “Ukraine wants peace.”
Zelensky called on both sides to respect a ceasefire agreed under the so-called Minsk peace accords brokered by France and Germany in 2015.
